A Lawsuit Caused By A Man's Bulldog Cost Him $437,000

A Staten Island woman has just won her lawsuit for $437,500 due to a fractured hip caused by she a friend's bulldog jumped onto her and knocked her down.

A court decision in Staten Island, New York this month just cost a man $437,000 due to his pet bulldog. YIKES!!!

A friend had came to visit of him (Patricia Indellicati, 48) in his home back on July 18, 2016. When she walked into the kitchen of Michael Fichera, his American bulldog  "Luke" came running from the porch to greet them and enthusiastically jumped onto Patricia causing her to be knocked over

Unfortunately Luke was a larger 95lb dog.

Indellicati has to be transported via ambulance to the Staten Island University Hospital, where doctors operated on her fractured right hip, said her court filings.

Indellicati had to undergo another hip surgery on Dec. 1, 2016.

She sued Fichera in state Supreme Court, St. George.

437,000$ is a huge sum of money! When you add up pricey medical costs, legal costs and missed work costs it escalates quickly! In the U.S. any pet that you own is your responsibility and considered your property. I'm not sure how Michael Fichera could have paid this amount. Likely remortgage his property? Use retirement savings?  All because of one small accident.
Anyone can avoid having to pay costly lawsuits if they have pet insurance. It also covers you from expensive unexpected veterinarian costs. Being a Bulldog owner myself I'm fully aware of the many health challenges Bulldogs face. I use Pet Premium insurance.
